Dr. Gopal’s interests and expertise include the management of diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, retinal tears and detachments, dislocated intraocular lenses, retinal vascular disease, ocular trauma, ocular inflammation, and other medical and surgical conditions of the retina and vitreous.

Education & Training
Dr. Gopal received his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine after graduating summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania.
He completed his training in ophthalmology and then vitreoretinal surgery at the prestigious Wills Eye Hospital, world-renowned for its pioneering excellence in eye care and consistently ranked among the top eye hospitals in the nation.
He has served as attending ophthalmologist in the Wills Eye Emergency Room, one of few dedicated eye emergency centers in the country.
Research, Teaching & Academic Contributions
Dr. Gopal has presented research at global and national scientific meetings and published his work in leading peer-reviewed journals including JAMA, Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology Retina, and the American Journal of Ophthalmology.
He has received awards for his work from the Retina Research Foundation, Atlantic Coast Retina Club, and New England Ophthalmological Society, among others.
He has played an active role in the education and training of medical students and residents at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.
